Salary hike Bill for MLAs, MLCs passed in Andhra Pradesh Council
Hyderabad, Mar 29 : More then 100 per cent hike in salary, including constituency allowance and increment in pension, was given to the MLAs and MLCs when a Bill was passed by the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council here tonight.

The Bill was passed by Council Chairman A Chakrapani when State Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy introduced it by hiking salaries from Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000 and constituency allowance from Rs 35,000 to Rs 95,000 while the pension was increased from Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000.

The decision to the hike in salary was taken in the Amenities Committee meeting held after discussion with the all-party legislators, including TDP, PRP and Left parties individually by Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

The Minister said the new salary will come into force from January 1, 2011.

Earlier, during the discussion on the salary hike, CPM leader Seetharamulu (CPM) and teachers Constituency members MVS Sarma and Subaramanyam have strongly opposed the Bill.

Even some of the outsourcing and contractor worker's salary are still below the minimum wages, they alleged.
